On May 3 of this year, the head of the laboratory of chlorine processes (No. 2) Sergei Andreevich Sidorenko turned 75 years old.

Sergey Andreevich Sidorenko has been working at JSC “TITAN INSTITUTE” for 52 years, since August 1973.

During his tenure with our organization, he has established himself as a competent and qualified specialist, a talented scientist, researcher, and experimenter, and a conscientious and attentive laboratory director.

As the responsible executive and manager, S.A. Sidorenko successfully completed numerous studies over the years, which formed the basis for the development and improvement of technologies for the chlorination of various mineral raw materials and the production of rare and rare earth metals.

Today, Sergey Andreevich is a recognized authority in the chemistry and technology of chlorine processes. His scientific publications number over 90 titles.

Under his leadership and with his direct involvement, the following contracts with international customers have been completed in recent years:

• laboratory testing of titanium-silicon concentrate to produce technical titanium tetrachloride for SMS group Process Technologies GmbH, Austria;
• increasing vanadium recovery during pulp residue processing by reducing vanadium losses for UKTMP JSC, Republic of Kazakhstan;
• determining the causes of magnesium and magnesium chloride distribution during recovery and the causes of increased titanium impurity content in magnesium chloride for UKTMP JSC, Republic of Kazakhstan;
• developing technology and pilot equipment for producing silicon tetrachloride by chlorinating metallurgical silicon for PCC SE, Germany.

On March 24, 2026, the XVI International Conference of Young Scientists “YOUNG SCIENTISTS 2026 – FROM THEORY TO PRACTICE” was held in Dnipro.

The conference with the report “STUDY OF THE STRUCTURE OF POROUS PLATES FROM MEDICAL ALLOY Ti-6Al-4V_ELI, MANUFACTURED BY LASER 3D-PRINTING” was attended by employees of JSC “TITANIUM INSTITUTE”, postgraduate students of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technology (UDUNT), Director for General and Legal Affairs Victoria BRONETSKA and Director for Production Yevhen STORCHAK.

On September 24, 2025, the first annual international forum, United by Mining, took place in Kyiv. It brought together representatives of government, business, international organizations and investors to discuss the future of Ukraine’s resource economy. The forum’s program covered four key topics: «Sustainable Recovery of Ukraine», «International Partnership», «Ukraine’s Potential» and «Defense Hub».
The event was organized by the National Association of Extractive Industries of Ukraine with the support of the Commercial Department of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine.
The forum’s mission is to create a modern model of partnership between Ukraine and the world in the natural resources sector, based on trust, sustainability, and shared responsibility for the future.
The “Roadmap for Intensifying the Development of the Extractive Industry-2025” was presented at the forum.
A delegation from JSC «TITANIUM INSTITUTE», consisting of owner Andrey Zaika, CEO Viktor Brener and Deputy CEO for NIITitan, Doctor of Engineering Alexander Ovchinnikov, participated in the forum and, at their own exhibit, presented informational materials about the organization’s activities, its development directions and the services it offers in the areas of scientific research, design work and manufacturing.

On July 16 of this year, the management of JSC “TITANIUM INSTITUTE”, headed by General Director Viktor Brener, held negotiations with representatives of the company JNARDDC, Republic of India and the Ministry of Mines of India.
During the discussion, Dr. Anupam Agnihotri, Director of JNARDDC, and representatives of the Ministry of Mines of India made a presentation on “Proposal for Establishing a Pilot Plant for Processing Alkaline Solution of 1000 Litres Capacity for Gallium Extraction in India”.
Representatives of JSC “TITANIUM INSTITUTE” informed the Indian side about the availability of modern technology and a plant for efficient production of gallium on a laboratory and industrial scale in our organization, as well as experience in designing gallium production.

Advantages of the proposed technology:
1. Low cost of obtaining gallium.
2. Possibility of organizing production without changes in the main technology of alumina production.
3. Virtual absence of waste and harmful emissions.
4. High degree of automation.
5. Low capital costs and fast payback.
6. Gallium purity reaches 4N, and if necessary – up to 6N with minimal additional investment.

It is hard to imagine the modern world without metal products. Cars, bridges, household appliances, jewelry, dishes – almost everything that surrounds us contains a certain amount of metals.
In school history, we were taught that the “Iron Age”, which replaced the “Bronze Age” about 3-4 thousand years ago, was revolutionary for humanity on a historical scale.
But our days can already be called the “age of rare and rare-earth metals.” They are the basis of all the electronics that surround us, on which, in fact, our civilization is built. Also, without these metals, neither modern aviation, nor space exploration, nor breakthrough medical technologies would be possible.
Smartphones, flat-screen TVs, computer monitors, electronic components, strong permanent magnets, GPS navigators, radars, lasers, MRI scanners, contrast agents for tumor diagnostics, sunglasses, optics for space and military equipment, structural elements of nuclear reactors, atomic microbatteries, alloying additives for non-ferrous and ferrous metallurgy, catalysts in the chemical industry – all this makes up our modern developing world, and all this is impossible to imagine without the use of rare and rare earth elements.
This means that in our time, countries that have deposits of these “21st century metals” are unexpectedly gaining an advantage in the global distribution of wealth. More precisely, not just possessing them, but managing to establish extraction and processing. Currently, rare and rare earth metals are among the main types of materials, the presence of which determines the level of development of high technologies. In modern conditions, the demand for these metals is constantly growing.
Since the second half of the 20th century, the levels of production and consumption of rare and rare earth elements have come to be considered as indicators of economic and national security in industrialized and developing countries. Over the past 10 years, global consumption of lithium, niobium, vanadium, tantalum, rare earths and some other rare metals has increased by 2-3 times, and the most scarce and strategically important elements (e.g. rhenium and indium) by 7-10 times.
It is expected that over the next two decades, demand for copper and rare earth elements will increase by more than 40 %, for nickel and cobalt by 60-70 %, and for lithium by almost 90 %.
According to the International Energy Agency, production of essential rare and rare earth metal minerals will need to expand significantly to meet projected demand by 2030. An additional 50 lithium, 60 nickel and 17 cobalt mines will need to be brought online to meet global net carbon emissions targets by 2030.
Humanity will always strive to fly higher, travel faster, penetrate deeper into the earth’s interior, and at the same time reduce the costs of the resources needed for this. This means that new generation materials must surpass previous ones and have new, unique properties. Such properties can be provided by rare and rare earth metals.
Therefore, the problems of developing rare and rare earth metals – how to extract them, how to process them, how to produce finished products from them – seriously worry those who think about the future.
In this sense, the production of rare and rare earth metals has now become a powerful tool of geopolitics.

Rare elements are the conventional name for a group of chemical elements in the Periodic Table of D.I. Mendeleyev. Rare elements are conventionally divided into the following categories: light (lithium Li, rubidium Rb, cesium Cs, beryllium Be), refractory (titanium Ti, zirconium Zr, hafnium Hf, vanadium V, niobium Nb, tantalum Ta, molybdenum Mo, tungsten W), scattered (gallium Ga, indium In, thallium Tl, germanium Ge, cadmium Cd, selenium Se, tellurium Te, rhenium Re), rare earth (scandium Sc, yttrium Y, lanthanum La and lanthanides), radioactive (Po, Tc, Fr, Ra, Ac, Th, Pa, U, Pu, Np, Cm, Cf, Am, etc.). However, many of these elements can be assigned to different groups at the same time.

The emergence of the terms “rare elements” and “rare earth elements” is explained by the comparatively late development and use of these elements, which is associated with their low prevalence or dispersion in the earth’s crust. It is this feature that makes the process of their isolation and purification extremely complex and labor-intensive.

The first rare and rare earth elements were discovered in the late 18th – early 19th centuries. However, they began to find practical application only in the 20th century. The situation changed dramatically in the second half of the 20th century, when the emergence of new industrial technologies necessitated the widespread use of such metals and their compounds in a wide variety of areas.But their consumption is still negligible compared to the consumption of metals traditional for mankind.

Extraction and processing of rare and rare earth metals is a huge problem – due, as a rule, to their extremely low concentration in ores.

In addition, technologies for recycling used equipment and electronics have not yet been perfected: currently, no more than 2-3% of waste containing rare and rare earth elements is recycled in the world.

Currently, rare and rare earth metals are widely used in various technologies in the field of electronic devices, production of innovative materials, industrial chemistry and others. Over the past 30 years, the world has seen an explosive growth in demand for such metals, and today there is no industry where they are not used – from the nuclear and aviation industries to glass production.

The use of rare and rare earth metals indicates a high level of technological development of production. Scientists believe that these elements will become indispensable in the transition to more advanced technologies, including bio- and nanotechnology, nuclear and space industry, as well as “green energy”. It is for this reason that rare earth metals are considered strategically important resources, and their presence is critical to ensuring national security and technological independence.

Gallium is in high and stable demand on the world market. Every year the consumption of this metal increases, and its production increases at the same time.
The price of metallic gallium is constantly rising.
Application areas: radio electronics, fiber optic electronics, high-frequency electronics, semiconductor lasers, high-temperature thermometers, light alloys, organic synthesis, medicine.
The main source of obtaining gallium are alumina production solutions.
JSC “Titanium Institute” has a technology for extracting technical gallium from alumina production solutions by the sorption method with a gallium content in the finished product of at least 4N.
Previously, design work was completed on the construction of a gallium production workshop with a capacity of 10 tons of technical gallium per year. The customer is Nikolaev Alumina Plant LLC, Nikolaev, Ukraine.
The workshop was built and launched into production. Currently, JSC Titanium Institute is implementing the Contract for Development of Basic Engineering for the Gallium Production Site.
The project is based on the technology of sorption extraction of gallium from alumina production solution, which is currently the most advanced, promising, and environmentally friendly due to the fact that only the required component is selected from the initial raw material in the most concentrated form, and the remaining components are returned to production, and therefore, in the cost of gallium, there are no costs for raw materials.
Thus, two problems are solved at once: improving the quality of the finished product (alumina) due to the removal of gallium impurities from it and obtaining an additional finished product in the form of technical gallium.

Head of the Ukrainian State Property Fund Vitalii Koval has met with the representatives of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Toho Titanium to discuss the possibility of investing in Ukraine’s titanium industry.
“In February, together with the government delegation, I visited Tokyo, and today [March 8, 2024 – Ed.] I have met with the representatives of JICA and Toho Titanium to discuss further steps, in particular the possibility of investing in Ukraine’s titanium industry. I told them about the industry’s largest enterprises controlled by the State Property Fund, such as Zaporizhzhia Titanium and Magnesium Plant (ZTMP), Sumykhimprom, and United Mining and Chemical Company (UMCC),” Koval wrote.
The Ukrainian State Property Fund also governs Titanium Institute JSC, which is specializing in the research and development of titanium industry solutions in different countries.
Koval mentioned that Ukraine’s titanium industry requires investment, experience and technologies. Today, it is important for Ukraine to launch the processing of titanium ores, namely in order to prevent Russians from gaining access to Ukrainian raw materials, Koval added.

On February 12 of this year, JSC “TITANIUM INSTITUTE” was visited by the Head of the State Property Fund of Ukraine, Vitaly Stanislavovich Koval.
At a technical meeting with the participation of the management of TITANIUM INSTITUTE JSC, General Director Viktor Aleksandrovich Brener spoke in detail about the international cooperation of our institute with leading metallurgical companies, about ongoing contracts and about potential contracts under discussion. V.A. Brener also reported on promising areas of work of JSC “TITANIUM INSTITUTE” and new, innovative technologies that are proposed for implementation.
According to V.S. Kovalya: “It is important for us to understand what the situation is with the facilities on the front-line territory. Today, JSC “TITANIUM INSTITUTE” has a number of international contracts. This allows us to ensure the operation of the enterprise and the representation of the state on the world market in the titanium industry. I am convinced that science and production are inextricably linked. If the institute works, then the titanium industry will live.”

On May 25, 2023, a technical meeting was held at the JSC «Titanium Institute» with specialists from JSC «MOTOR SICH» and «MULTIFLEX LLC».
Issues discussed:
1. Testing and implementation of a resource-saving technology for producing gas turbine engine blades from serial titanium powders and titanium alloys produced by JSC «Titanium Institute».
2. Testing of an innovative technology for the production of GTE blades from a new generation material – an alloy based on aluminum-titanium.
3. The introduction of spherical titanium powders produced by «MULTIFLEX LLC» for the manufacture of disks.
4. Creation of a new Technical Committee for Standardization “Additive Technologies”.
Decided: JSC «MOTOR SICH» to develop an action plan to determine the properties of the material of blades from serial powders of titanium and titanium alloys produced by JSC «Titanium Institute» on samples simulating industrial production and to test the shaping technology for producing blades for gas turbine engines. After analyzing the test results, perform economic calculations of the feasibility of import substitution of deformed titanium semi-finished products.
A new generation material, aluminum-titanium alloy, may be of interest as a raw material for the manufacture of 4++ and 5 generation GTE blades. JSC «Titanium Institute» will give JSC «MOTOR SICH» the test reports of the mechanical properties of the material and machined samples for tensile testing.
